India has achieved a historic milestone — it will host the Asian Muay Thai Championship in 2025 for the very first time. This landmark victory signals a new era for Indian Muay Thai, opening doors for athletes across the nation to shine on a continental stage.
How It All Began
Since 2023, Mr. Hemanth Kumar, the founder of Golden Mongkhon International (GMI), has consistently pushed to bring this prestigious event to India. He submitted proposals to the World Muay Thai Federation (WMF), the international governing body for Muay Thai, showing India’s capability and commitment to host.
In 2023, Uzbekistan secured the bid as their representative had recently become the President of the Asian Muay Thai Federation. Despite India’s strong efforts, it had to wait for another opportunity.
The Road to 2025
In 2024, four nations — Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and India — again applied to host the event. Initially, Uzbekistan was selected. However, they later announced their inability to conduct the championship.
That moment created a fresh opportunity. During the 20th World Muay Thai Championship in 2025, Kyrgyzstan stepped aside, and Kazakhstan, demonstrating true sportsmanship, endorsed India as the next host. The World Muay Thai Federation officially confirmed India as the host for the 2025 Asian Muay Thai Championship.
For the first time in history, India will welcome Asia’s best fighters to compete under the WMF banner.
Why This Matters for Indian Muay Thai
Hosting the Asian Championship in India brings enormous benefits. For one, Indian fighters will gain international exposure without traveling abroad. It will also:
- Put India in the global spotlight for Muay Thai
- Motivate the next generation of young fighters
- Improve the overall standard of training and competition
- Strengthen India’s position within the Asian Muay Thai community
In addition, it provides a valuable platform for coaches, referees, and officials to network and learn at a higher level.
What Comes Next?
India, under the guidance of Golden Mongkhon International, has already begun preparing for the 2025 event. The championship will attract top fighters, judges, and coaches from all over Asia.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is set to host the 2026 edition, showcasing a spirit of unity and collaboration among WMF member nations.
