Golden Mongkhon International announces that the 16th Asian Open Muay Thai Championship, planned to take place in India in 2025, has been canceled until further notice.
India Wins the Bid to Host the Championship
Earlier this year, India proudly won the bid to host the Asian Muay Thai Championship. This was a historic moment for Indian Muay Thai and Golden Mongkhon International. With strong support from the World Muay Thai Federation (WMF) and its members, we secured the opportunity to bring Asia’s most prestigious Muay Thai championship to Indian soil. Our team took great pride in preparing to welcome athletes and delegations from across the continent, determined to deliver an event that reflected the true spirit of Muay Thai and international unity.
The April Tragedy and Rising International Concerns
On 22nd April 2025, tragedy struck. Armed attackers from Pakistan crossed into India and carried out a brutal assault in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The attackers targeted and killed 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali citizen. Reports confirmed that the attackers verified the religion of their victims before killing them in front of their families. This heartbreaking event shocked the entire region and deeply affected many people.
Following this attack, several countries raised concerns about sending their athletes to India. On 4th May 2025, General Secretary Mr. Mohmad Jallali and General Director Kru. Luca informed us during an official video conference that many nations had decided to withdraw their teams. Shortly after, on 6th May 2025, WMF President Gen. Akachai announced in an official video that the championship would be canceled until further notice.
Golden Mongkhon’s Efforts and Preparations
From the moment India was chosen as host, Golden Mongkhon International worked tirelessly to prepare for this championship. By 08th April 2025, we had designed and produced the official championship medals. We finalized and fully paid for the stadium to host the event, ensuring a world-class venue for athletes and spectators. Our team coordinated every detail, from logistics to hospitality, to offer a memorable and high-standard competition experience.

Looking Forward with Strength and Hope
We choose to see this as a valuable milestone in our journey — a lesson that strengthens our resolve. We embrace it with pride and look forward to what lies ahead. Even though this year’s Asian Championship will not take place, Golden Mongkhon International remains committed to contributing to the growth of Muay Thai in India and around the world.
WMF will now focus on the European Championship in October, followed by Pan America and other continental events. We remain hopeful and determined. With continued support from WMF and its members, we will work hard to bring the Asian Championship to India in 2026 and make it stronger than ever.
We thank everyone for their understanding and continued support. Please follow our official website and social media channels for future updates.
