On August 19th, 2024, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) canceled the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games (AIMAG). OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam conveyed the decision in a letter to Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and Gen. Prawit Wangsuwon, President of the NOC of Thailand.
Unresolved budgetary issues caused significant delays in planning and preparation. With only three months remaining and no test events completed, the OCA decided that continuing with the event would involve too much risk.
The OCA Executive Board encouraged Thailand to reapply for hosting rights after the Riyadh Games. They emphasized that any future applications must follow the standard process.
This outcome underscores the importance of timely financial planning for large-scale sporting events. Although the cancellation represents a setback, it also highlights the challenges of organizing international competitions.
